About Us
The congregation at House of Prayer Lutheran is a warm, friendly body of Christians who gather together to worship Jesus Christ and celebrate his love every week. He calls us to prayer, to witness, to service, to fellowship, and to celebration. We are active locally serving Christ and witnessing his love in Elizabethtown, Fort Knox, Hardin County, and our surrounding areas. God is so good all the time! We are part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and regularly meet with other ELCA congregations in nearby cities and states. We are also in an enriching covenant relationship with local congregations at Christ Episcopal and St. James Catholic Churches. We regularly worship and study with these Christians several times a year. Lutherans follow a liturgical format familiar to Christians for millenia. We emphasize Word and Sacrament to make Christ known. Every week we have scripture reading, Biblical preaching and weekly communion to praise the Lord. All baptized Christians are welcomed to commune. We sing a variety of songs including traditional, gospel, contemporary, and liturgical chants. We worship as families and have a children's sermon during the service. Our children sing in the choir and play in our orchestra. We offer intecessory prayer during the worship service. Those who desire individual prayer after the worship service are invited to speak to Pastor Betsy or the worship assistant.
Our mission statement at House of Prayer is easy to remember. It is: GATHER, GO, and GROW in the name of Jesus Christ. We seek to make Christ known in worship, in service to others, in study, and in prayer to all who need a vision of God's grace and love. Martin Luther's work can be a model for worship that welcomes all people. As with Luther's reform and renewal of worship, a balance of new and old, shows how the whole world across generations and cultures stands in need of God's grace and mercy. *Essential to worship that embodies God's promise of forgiveness, mercy, and grace is ministry that invites and welcomes everyone. More than doing one thing or another, hospitality is a way of being the church, a way of being welcoming and inviting. Shaped by word and sacrament, we welcome all people who are hungry for God's grace. Beyond style and taste, beyond generations and cultures, beyond any distinctions the world might draw to separate people one from the other, we are called to welcome others as Christ has welcomed us. * Exerpts from With the Whole Church copyright © 2005 Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
